I'm making Christmas presents again this year (last years are here) & have already finished a couple of them. Here's the first one I've completed, a bear for one of my young cousins. I'll probably only be able to show you this & another one before the date, as some of my family read my blog, & I don't want them to find out what I'm doing, haha!
Anyway, I did in fact use a pattern for this bear, it's this pattern by JennyLovesBenny, which I bought years ago to make a small mohair bear for my mum. I thought I might as well put it to use now! I had to enalrge it by about 500% or something ridiculous, this bear is about 30cm high sitting, & the one in the pattern about 15cm standing. As you can tell I didn't use fur, but leftover wool tweed from this skirt project. I did use some scraps of mohair on the ears & feet, so it's kinda like a topsy turvy bear.
I also crocheted her a little cardigan, which I also studded with hotfix hearts(her nose is also studded with a little hotfix gem!), as she seemed a bit cold without any fur, haha! She's half machine sewn/half handsewn. The handsewing bits were pretty tricky, esp with my choice of a fabric that likes to fray easily! Also, because she isn't furry, mistakes showed up really easily, which is something I didn't think of! I think she turned out okay though, she's jointed & even has a growler in, so I hope my cousin likes her.

ReplyDeleteYou know what is so special about this? Your cousins will keep this forever, it'll be their fondest memory of you. Their special cousin who would make them things, instead of buying them things, for Christmas. Even if they're young and they cast the bear to the back of their closets as they reach for the flash trash, they'll be pulling out this bear when they're older, when they try to grasp at their childhood again. You shall be the creator of their memories. That is very special!
ReplyDeleteWow! This teddy is ridiculously cute! Your very talented and crafty, you should sell them, they are so sweet in little pink tweed.
