Like I said in my last post, Carl & I decorated gingerbread houses on Christmas Eve. I made the actual gingerbread the day before, then we just made the icing & had fun decorating them with lots of sweets. I took a few snapshots of the progress which are below. It was my first time making royal icing (what I've been calling royal icing was in fact glace icing, eek!), so I was a bit worried about not making it well enough & the houses just falling apart, haha, but it all went well & they are still standing.

As you can see, I went for a very colourful & girly approach to my house, whereas Carl went for a more muted colour theme, with more chocolate instead of sweets. I really liked his "tiled" roof.

Look at his adorable snowman too! I tried making one, but it did not go well, so I didn't add it to my house (luckily I made it on a separately tray, as not to ruin my house if it did go wrong :p).

What do you think? Did any of you make gingerbread houses this year, I'd love to see!
♥
so sweet :)
ReplyDeleteI love your colorful design!!! :D Though I admit Carl's tile design is very clever too! :D
ReplyDeleteAwww, your gingerbread house looks so pretty! I didn't make any this year (it's been at least a decade since the last one...), but after seeing yours it's definitely on the to-do list for next year.
ReplyDeleteI made my first gingerbread house this year too. You are right, making that icing is a little scary. I made a totally white and silver one, but I'm inspired to go for pastel shades next time after seeing this xx
ReplyDeleteOh, soooo sweet! :)
ReplyDeletelovely! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - your gingerbread houses look so good! For the last 3 years I've been saying I'll make one but I never get round to it. 2014 will be the year! :) x
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness your ginger bread houses are so adorable & so well-made! I got sick before x-mas so I've not been able to make my own yet :/

they are beautiful and look yummy! I never made any in my life. maybe it is time.
ReplyDeleteThey look so pretty! I particularly like the little wreath on the front of yours.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a gingerbread house, the look very tricky. I worry I wouldn't know what to do with it afterwards, I'd probably get too attached to eat it and too attached to throw it away when it goes stale ><
your pastel gingerbread house is the absolute best, georgina! so adorable ^^
ReplyDeleteahhh this is so cute ^^
ReplyDeleteYour boyfriend - the RPG kind of looking guy (you know - swards, dragons to slay, aaallll the beer to drink in the tawern after a fight with a horde of goblins) and the satisfied face while prestenting the work - priceless :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is the strangest description of me I've ever heard. :P
DeleteAww that is beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are beautiful and so are your gingerbread houses! I am in awe of how perfect yours is!! Xo
ReplyDeleteThose look awesome! I made some with my kids, but we used the kits. I have made them from scratch before, but it was such a pain that I didn't want to do it again. If you'd like to see them, here is the link to my blog post.
